The offset allows the machine to be placed over the user's hand, making it more ergonomic and facilitating keeping the machine upright when tracing these large straight lines.
TWO versions available:
Heavy Weight: 1.25" BRASS Grip and Stainless Steel backstem (227g)
Feather Weight: 1.25" ALUMINUM Grip and Stainless Steel backstem (78g)
Brass is heavier but absorbs more vibration and offsets the pull of the clip cord and/or the weight at the end of the machine, providing better balance over the hand.
Aluminum is much lighter and pairs perfectly with a battery to reduce overall weight. Balance is slightly better with the Brass version, but it is a tradeoff for weight.
